About
Hello, I’m Jasmine.
An 18-year-old interior design student from Manchester, in my first year at the University of Salford, with a focus on commercial and industrial interiors.
I’ve always been more interested in the places we share than the places we live. Offices, shops, cafés, stations and workshops are where most of us spend our days, and they’re where good design can make the biggest difference to the most people.
Studying at Salford puts me right next to some of the best industrial architecture in the country. Old mills, railway arches and dockside warehouses are my favourite starting points: I like to work out what a building already offers, its structure, light and history, and design around that rather than covering it up.
This site is where I’m collecting my project and design work as I go through the course: coursework briefs, self-initiated concepts, sketches, plans and material studies. It’s a work in progress, and it will grow as I do.
How I approach a brief
Three things I come back to
Read the building
Brick, steel, vaults and scars. Start with what the space already has and decide what to celebrate.
Plan for people
Footfall, queues, focus and noise. The layout has to work hard before any colour or finish goes on.
Choose honest materials
Durable, repairable and warm to the touch, chosen to last in busy, hard-working spaces.
